Life Drawing- Body Language

For the body language life drawing class I originally started drawing the characters too realistic so instead I decided to turn them more into illustrations so it was easier to understand what was happening in the picture using purely body language and some background 'hints'. For example in this first drawing you see a woman holding a paint can and paint brush, with her arms open ready to accept praise (or in this case, criticism). By her facial expressions you can tell she's unsure of the response and looks quite tired. Her fee are pointing to wards the two men, an open gesture similar to her arms. One of the men looks like his thinking of something to say with his confused expression, his legs crossed- a closed of position and almost looks defensive. On the other hand, the other man looks quite angry and disappointed, his arms crossed- a very negative gesture. His feet are pointing outwards as he's not ready to talk.

This drawing at the bus stop is my least favourite mainly because I drew it in pen and looking back at it the glass bus stop is very basic and the sign is too obvious. The man's body language is quite open because he's looking for the bus which is late, his feet and pointing to the left showing thats the direction the bus should be coming from. His hands are in fists, meaning he's irritable and defensive, the back of his hand is facing outwards, meaning he's closed off. His facial expression is both worried and confused as his bus should have been there half an hour ago (on his watch it says 11:30). His part har is a give away that he's going to a news year eve party- this could be too much of a give away. If I would add something to this drawing I would make it rainy to add to the somber mood.

In this body language drawing, it's obvious that the woman doesn't like her hair cut and prefers the way the other woman's hair is styled. The woman on the left has her arms crossed, showing she's closed off and sad, her feet are pointing towards the other customer showing she prefers that hair cut, even her face is looking towards the other woman. The other woman on the right has her legs crossed over, her hand adjusting her hair which also is blocking herself off from the conflict. Her face is worried and is blushing showing that she's embarrassed. The hairdresser in the background's facial expression shows she's try to reason with the angry customer her feet are open towards both of the clients, her arms are open towards the embarrassed customer showing the angry customer that she can fix it. This drawing is definitely better than the second drawing I did and tells the story better without too many props.
