Discussing different paths for my animations and illustrations

1. The first idea I had for illustrating a story explaining a section of Anning life was based around her extraordinary childhood. The premise for this retelling of Anning’s life was to demonstrate how she got her intelligence. Since she was a young girl people around her dedicated her passion to learn and interest in science was due to a freak accident that happened as a baby. The tree, young Anning and three of her mothers friends were standing under, was struck by lightning. Anning was the only survivor and since this incident the public believe she became stronger and wiser.  For this idea I could elude to the fact that Mary Anning has almost a super power for retaining knowledge and the ability to stay brave during frightening experiences in her life.  However, this could be extremely hard because for what I want to do (target and inspire younger girl to want to learn about STEM subjects) this story would only show her childhood and not her outstanding findings in ...

Drawing Mary Anning

First Attempt  Using this painting as my reference picture I decided to illustrate a more realistic character so that I could develop the drawing from there. Because I want to aim my work to young girls as my target audience I know that they would prefer a character to look more like a character and not a caricature. So after this first attempt of drawing Mary Anning I decided to make my drawings more inspired by a "Disney princess". My other drawings will need to included big eyes and a 'pretty' dress. However to make it more inspirational for younger girls I don't want my drawing to look too girly. My aim is to inspire girls to look into science and break outside of their boundaries just like Mary Anning did throughout her life.  This drawing was an attempt at making Mary Anning look younger, although it did make Anning look younger I don't think that this would be an attracting illustration for girls to look up to and want to read the story or watch...
