Discussing different paths for my animations and illustrations

1. The first idea I had for illustrating a story explaining a section of Anning life was based around her extraordinary childhood. The premise for this retelling of Anning’s life was to demonstrate how she got her intelligence. Since she was a young girl people around her dedicated her passion to learn and interest in science was due to a freak accident that happened as a baby. The tree, young Anning and three of her mothers friends were standing under, was struck by lightning. Anning was the only survivor and since this incident the public believe she became stronger and wiser.

For this idea I could elude to the fact that Mary Anning has almost a super power for retaining knowledge and the ability to stay brave during frightening experiences in her life.

However, this could be extremely hard because for what I want to do (target and inspire younger girl to want to learn about STEM subjects) this story would only show her childhood and not her outstanding findings in science and Biology.

2.  My second idea was to show her progress from selling fossils on the seaside to her work being in museum and archeologists going to Mary for advice. I could even experiment with the popular saying “She sells seashells on the seashore”. This could be a good idea as it allows more people to recognise Anning for her discoveries, something which she was never allowed throughout her life.
However, this could be a lot less interesting for younger girls compared to my previous idea.

3. My third idea is to follow the story of her and her brother being inspire by her late father to collect fossils and find there first Ichthyosaurus skull. I would have three main characters, Anning, her brother Joseph and her dog. This could be a good idea as it can show young girls that they don’t have to start what they want to do in their life when they’re adults and explore different options when they are young. This will encourage girls to go on adventures, excite them about science and be a great story to read as a child.
