Planning for Storyboard

For the storyboard we were task with the idea of making pivotal moments in the historical figures career. So, for Mary Anning's first three snapshots was going to be dedicated to her childhood.

1. The first drawing is of her as a baby underneath an Elm Tree, which was struck by lightning. This is an interesting snapshot because a lot of her family and neighbours attribute her intelligence to this incident. This was definitely worth noting as it shows how women at this time couldn't just be smart, they had to have a reason why they were.
2. The second drawing of the storyboard is of her, her father and brother Joseph selling fossils. This was the initial reason for her being so fascinated by fossils. Even in Mary Anning's later life she was known for selling 'Curios' on the beach. This is where the tongue twister "She sells seashells..." comes from.
3. Her brother found a 4 foot long ichthyosaurus skull which was one of her the turning points of Anning's career as she continued these exhibitions when Joseph went to university.

 4. This next scene of the storyboard is of Mary Anning's first huge discovery, the "flying dragon" Plesiosaurus. This was the pinpoint of the start of her popularity in Geological community.
5. To educated herself she would hand-copy scientific literature. She even added notes to them from her own experiences. Anning had to self-educate due to society's expectations of women and how they shouldn't go to school. However, even though she didn't go to school she was more educated than most of the well-known male geologists of the time.
6. To develop her own understanding of the fossils she had collected, she would dissect similar animals such as cuttlefish. However, in this drawing I quickly did, I realised that Anning wouldn't compare cuttlefish to an Ichthyosaurus. Anning would most likely compare it to a Belemnite.
7. One of Annings close friends painted the Durio Antiquior, which showcases all of her fossils but how they would have looked in the Jurrasic period. He sold prints of it which finance her career when she was struggling.
8. Geologists would consult Anning on different fossils because of her extensive knowledge about different species. Anning would be able to tell which species a fossil was just from one bone.

9. The last drawing of the storyboard will be of Mary Anning when she was eventually able to afford a house for her collection of fossils to be showcased.
